Natural Hair

Natural Hair

I have to admit I am fairly new to the natural hair game. However, now that I am natural I will never, ever go back to relaxing the beautiful curls from my hair. I want to share a few things I have learned during my two year journey of being natural. I hope this information helps at least one of you natural, soon-to-be-natural, or just wandering-about-natural ladies. Oh yea, or the mommies that are taking care of babies with natural curly hair. Let’s not forget the disclaimer: I am not a professional. I’m just a brown woman that loves her curls! LOL

#1. All hair is “Good Hair”. We just have different curl patterns. (If you don’t believe me just ask someone who has no hair.)

#2. You will not know your true curl pattern until all the relaxer is out of your hair.

#3. You don’t have to do the big chop. There are styles you can wear until the relaxer is out. I did cut most of my hair off then I did Bantu Knots to give some curl.

#4. What works for my hair may or may not work for your hair. Hair is just like skin. We may have the same color but my lotion may not work for your skin.

#5. Your hair does not need to be washed everyday.  However, water is your friend and should be used almost daily. We have at least six spray bottles around the house with a mixture of water and leave in conditioner.

#6. Moisturize often. We use extra virgin olive oil in the winter months and coconut oil in the summer. We also use A LOT of leave in conditioner.

#7. Don’t be afraid to try different products until you find what works for you.

#8. You don’t have to use expensive products.

#9. Try different looks. Accessorize with pretty clips, flowers, and scarfs. Add color if you like!

#10. Be patient, have fun and love what God has blessed you with.

Almost all natural. Bantu Knots were my best friend.

Finally, all the relaxer is out! Who knew those curls where hiding under there! They are poppin!

Filling myself! Blond hides grey better than red. LOL

Took a year but finally made platinum status! Blonds do have more fun!!!

It’s cold so we warmed up the blond! Will go back platinum in the spring!

Bella Cream Cowash, Leave In Conditioner and Curl Definer are my go-to products. I live by them and have not found any other product that make my curls pop. Each of these products are around $6.00 at the Dollar General! (Disclaimer, remember #4.)
